The reason of that they signed a contract with a young player "Gael Kakuta" from a french club "lens" without been negotiating with the team encouraging the player to break his contract with his team.

Chelsea will be banned from doing any transfers for one year this mean they are going to miss the next two transfers windows,the next time the english team would be able to sign with a new player is January 2011.

Chelsea called the penalty “without precedent” and “totally disproportionate” and said it would appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland.
