Duff signing will give Fulham what they have been missing
Newcastle midfielder Damien Duff has today completed his long awaited move to Fulham after the two clubs agreed a fee of around £5 million.
Duff, who arrived at St.James’ Park from Chelsea much to the adulation of Glenn Roeder, was seen as a major coup especially for the £5 million The Magpies paid for him. However, injuries, a behind the scenes circus and managerial changes meant Duff never really got going at Newcastle.
When Duff did begin to shine at Newcastle it was towards the end of last season, when Newcastle got relegated. He played most of the campaign at LB, and this year, Newcastle’s first game of the Coca Cola Championship, Duff scored a memorable equaliser.
Now, a confirmed Fulham player, Duff will add that dimension that Roy Hodgson has been lacking for the last two seasons. Fulham usually play down the centre but now, with a pacey winger in Duff you can expect more goals for the London side.
For Newcastle, they’ve lost a high earner most of all which is a positive, but they’ve also lost a player who fought for the club. The fans have nothing against Duff but would’ve loved him to stay.
What you get with Duff is a high work rate and the Irishman has the ability to pull something out of the bag, the kind of things Figo would be proud of. Good luck to Damien, he’s now back in the league which he deserves to ply his trade in. What do you think? Comments below please.
